Urban, Pop & Street Art
Our collection focuses on Urban, Pop & Street Art. We will exhibit artworks by established and upcoming artists, spanning from the pioneering street artist Blek Le Rat to the upcoming absurdistic pop artist James Howden. The collection holds unique paintings, drawings, editioned sculptures in bronze or mixed media and editioned silkscreen prints. The artists we will exhibit are the same as at AAF Amsterdam, but we will be bringing fresh and new pieces by all of them. Please let us introduce you to the artists:
Blek Le Rat (French, 1951 – )
Xavier Prou, aka Blek Le Rat is a French artist who is considered the pioneer of stencil street art. In 1981 he started stenciling rats all over Paris and shortly there-after his work started turning up all around the globe. He is still very active making his carreer span over 40 years in 2021. He is an inspiration to hundreds of street artists after him. Banksy has been quoted saying, “Every time I think I have made something slightly original I find out Blek has already done it, only 20 years earlier”. Please see our collection HERE.
Bortusk Leer (British, 1974 -)
Since bursting onto the art scene in 2007, Bortusk’s happy, childish, neon, silly work has been appearing on streets and gallery walls around the world, with the sole purpose of trying to brighten up the viewers day. We started collaborating with Bortusk Leer in May 2018. Since then his work has brightened up our gallery and the walls of many collectors. Please see his artworks HERE
Emmanuel Laflamme (Canadian, 1984 – )
Montreal artist Emmanuel Laflamme is a self-taught artist. He worked as a designer on animated series and has been involved with the advertising, movie and gaming industries. Since 2008, Laflamme has been pursuing a new passion – that of «re-working» existing pieces of art, by subtly incorporating his socio-political commentary. Laflamme uses popular images and imbues them with his unique sense of humour thus creating scenes with strong meaning, both funny and satirical. He creates his works like a creative director with nothing to sell. Please see his artworks HERE
Fredrik Erichsen (German, 1980 -)
Fredrik Erichsen (1980 -) is a visual artist from Bornheim, Germany. His body of work is an hommage to “Brutalist” architectural concrete forms and 90s graffiti & street art. After a huge succes during AAF Amsterdam, he has been very busy for this edition of AAF Brussels. He will show a brand new collection. To be on the pre-sale mailing list please send us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org – For the current collection please click HERE.
Hayden Kays (British, 1985 -)
Hayden Kays is a British artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture and printmaking. He is widely described as one of the most provocative artists of his generation for his celebration and critique of the culture industry which demonstrates classically trained sensibilities mediated by thoroughly contemporary concerns.
Kays’ work is characterised by bold imagery, often drawn from popular culture and art history, acerbic word-play, traditional craftsmanship and deadpan humour. Using everyday references and pithy witticisms, his work relates to and subverts the canon of the Pop Artists of the 1950s and the Young British Artists movement of the 1990s.
Hoodkitsch (Dutch, 1972 -)
Hoodkitsch is a Dutch and Maastricht based artist. His work is inspired by music and the every-day things around him. When he scavenges for kitsch artworks he brings home the ones he immediately has an idea for. Otherwise he doesn’t buy them.
James Howden (Scottish, 1990 -)
James Howden is an artist based in Edinburgh, Schotland. He graduated as a sculptor from Edinburgh Art College in 2017 and has exhibited work in Scotland, England and the United States of America. Artworks have found their way into the hands of private collectors throughout the UK during his studies and after.
To perfect his skills and craftsmanship, James Howden works as casting technician at the internationally renowned casting foundry Powderhall Bronze in Edinburgh
Kev Munday (British, 1986 -)
Kev Munday creates positive, vibrant artwork inspired by people watching and the every day. Celebrating the ordinary, Kev aims to make the viewer smile. In May 2019 an artwork by Kev Munday was chosen to be exhibited in the yearly Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. A participation in their exhibition is a major achievement.
During AAF Brussels Kev Munday will be live painting at our booth on Friday evening and Saturday midday.
Plastic Jesus (British)
Plastic Jesus is a Los Angeles based street artist that specialises in bold stencil and installation work, inspired by world news events, society, the urban environment, culture and politics. His critically acclaimed work combines humor, irony, criticism and unique opinion to create art that engages on many levels.
